At the recent Parent information session, I discussed our School Council. This is the governing committee for our school. To be a member of our School Council, nominations must be approved by Lutheran Education Queensland. Our School Council oversees policy direction for the school and they monitor our finances and set the strategic plan. At the parent information meeting I indicated the membership of our council and I do again here for your interest. Members who have been nominated from our Grace Congregation are Martin Fenwick, Garth Hunt, Naree Wittwer and Richie Thamm. A parent representative on our School Council is Claire Peters and we also have Felicia Nelner from Grace College Caboolture and Anthony Vassallo who is the current Business Manager at Redeemer Lutheran College. Pastor Mark is a consultant on our School Council and our Business Manager, Stephen Greener and I also report at each meeting.
I am very grateful for our School Council who voluntarily and, often in their own family time, give hours of service to our school community. At their first meeting this year where elections occurred to delegate roles for the council, Martin Fenwick our Chair for the last 8 years stepped down from this role. Garth Hunt was appointed unopposed. Martin has decided to stay on the council as Vice Chair and we are most grateful to him for doing so. I would like to acknowledge the wise counsel and many hours Martin has given our school over the past 8 years as his work has been highly valued. At the same time, we welcome Garth Hunt as our new Chairman and I especially look forward to working closely with Garth as he begins his season of guidance with our School Council.
Our School Council has 4 sub committees. They are the Risk and Finance Committee, the Strategic Plan and Policy Committee, the Education Committee and the Parents and Friends Executive is also a sub-committee of the School Council. The Grace Out of School Hours Care Facility has its own governing committee which is overseen by the School Council. On some of these committees are representatives from our school community such as family members or staff members from other schools with special expertise which helps inform our committees.
I thank God each month for those He brings to the important governance roles in our community.
We congratulate Mrs Debbie Whitby for her new appointment in our school as Assistant Service Leader in our Out of School Hours Care Facility. Debbie has worked in Prep for 8 years and although she was very reluctant to move from the area of the school which she loved, we know that she will be highly valued also in our GOSHC facility. Debbie is on Long Service Leave until the end of June but will do occasional work in GOSHC in the coming months so that our Service Leader, Mrs Jo Jackson can take some leave.
Very sadly Miss Amanda Pashen has decided to resign from her position as School Chaplain effective 22 February. Amanda has worked here for 11 years and she will be missed. I know all families will join me in wishing her every blessing as she moves into other work opportunities. We will replace Amanda and advise parents of the new chaplain after a recruitment process.
Are you considering or do you know someone considering enrolments for 2020. We do have pressure for places especially in Prep for 2020 so if you are thinking about enrolling a sibling, I urge you to do so before we start member of public enrolments. At a recent Principal’s tour we had 10 families attend many of whom immediately put in enrolment forms so this also adds to the pressure of enrolments.
Although we are always most sad to see families leave our school, we are aware that some move away from the peninsula or have other reasons for leaving. Please be advised that we do require 90 days’ notice of withdrawal or a term’s fees will be charged. This is part of the contract all parents sign when they enrol at Grace and we respectfully remind all families of this clause.
Please join us for a special Worship Service tomorrow 22 February at 8.40am. Our Year 3 students will be presented with their Bibles.
