At Grace Primary School we offer specialist Physical Education lessons for Prep through to Year 6. During Physical Education lessons students are introduced to a range of individual and team sports that are appropriate for their age. This involves the development of the knowledge, skills, understanding and motivation required for children to seek health and physical competence through involvement in activity.
Our Junior school program focuses on basic physical skills such as jumping, running, throwing, catching, balance and coordination. All Prep students participate in a Perceptual Motor Program throughout the year. Prep – Year 2 students build on these skills in a Sport It! Program which uses modified games to practice the techniques taught. Other programs the students are involved in include Jump Rope for Heart, modified ten pin bowling, dance, tennis hot shots and introductory athletics. We also offer learn to swim lessons for the Prep - Year 2 students.
Our senior school program develops our students’ skills for use within a variety of team and individual sports, such as basketball, netball, futsal, badminton and pateeka, as well as dance, cross country running and athletics. Students benefit from specialist clinics in the games of cricket, AFL, oz tag, tennis, rugby and touch football. Year 3-6 students participate in the Royal Lifesaving Society's Swim and Survive Program.
Grace Primary School belongs to the Redcliffe District Primary School Sports Association that is made up of independent and state schools in the local area. Grace Primary competes against the other schools in our District for Interschool Sport, which is played each Friday afternoon for nine weeks during Semester One and nine weeks during Semester Two. Some of the sports offered throughout the year are: soccer, touch football, AFL, netball, newcombe, volleyball, tennis and cricket.
At Grace Primary we have inter-house carnivals for the Junior School (Prep - Year 2) and the Senior School (Year 3 - Year 6). We have Senior Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals and Junior Cross Country and Sports Carnivals. Our students are involved in after school sports training practice, to improve fitness and prepare for competitive situations in carnivals. The senior students are able to compete at District level and there are opportunities for our students to continue on to represent the region, the state and even the nation. We also have teams compete at Inter Lutheran carnivals for swimming and athletics.
Grace Primary offers weekly tennis lessons after school and other sports clinics for AFL, soccer, basketball and other sports when they become available. These are also usually held after school (although some specialist sports clinics are held in Physical Education lessons) close to the school grounds.
